St Martins Square, Basildon

St. Martin's Square in Basildon underwent a series of improvements as part of the regeneration plan for Basildon Town Centre.

PSL were appointed by Thomas Sinden to carry out full structural and civils designs for both phases of the works which included a new fixed market/market support building, new SW drainage and new paving for the whole of St Martin’s Square including outside the Basildon Centre and Towngate Theatre.

Landscape improvements included new planters and seating as well as enhancements around the Bell Tower and car park.

The square is the principal civic space within Basildon and boasts several features of exceptional quality, including the 29m high free-standing St Martin’s Bell Tower, which was the first all glass bell tower in the world.
