Pure Structures Ltd were appointed by UK Real Estate to carry out structural design of the major refurbishment of the former Royal College of Midwifes to become their corporate offices.

Following a successful tender, our services were novated to Hutton Construction Ltd who were appointed as Main Contractor.

The work included returning LGF, 1st, 2nd existing 3rd level to original open plan arrangements. Major work at these levels involved increasing the size of the existing lift shaft for DDA compliance and which also required the removal of the central spine wall to provide replacement circulation areas. This was achieve by PSL designed temporary works propping and the installation of full height steelwork ladder frame -see 3D image.

A second large element of our works was the design of a new 4th FL at existing roof level and which we justified by load balance of removing existing roof finishes and carbon fibre strengthening works.

The new mansard roof structure was constructed with a structural steelwork frame bearing onto the external facades and party wall.

The project is due for completion in February 2024. Current site progress (Dec 2023) are included.
